A young couple in Manhattan needed someone with an eye for pattern and style to bring their new construction, blank slate of a second home in nearby Amagansett to life. And a mere 1,500 miles away they found her: the incomparable Southerner Amy Berry of Amy Berry Design.
Amy set out with the goal of creating from that blank slate a retreat from the city, a home functional for their small family now, which will stand the test of time — and boy, did she achieve that goal. Working with the homeowner remotely from her Dallas-based interior design firm, Amy began creating a vision for the home. “The homeowner loves color and was really wonderful to work with. So after spending a lot of phone time with her about her vision for the house, we were able to develop a strong concept that I think resonated quickly with her,” Amy says.
They would play off of the home’s good bones and modern lines with traditional furnishings, unique artwork and tasteful pops of color. “We very intentionally selected traditional upholstery with an emphasis on comfort and functionality, but mixed in layers of modern lighting and other elements that I think spoke to her sensibilities,” Amy says. A heavy focus on the careful selection of art for each room guided most design conversations, which Amy says made a big impact on the end result of the space.
Each room was revamped with Amy’s expert hand. The open concept living space, which encompasses the kitchen, dining area and sitting room, was painted a bright white, with unifying shades of blue, gray and cream throughout. Elements of natural cane served to further tie the spaces together, from the dining chairs to small woven baskets here and there and a cane accent chair in the sitting area. Comfortable furnishings with classic lines were the perfect complements to Amy’s vision for the home and would also serve the homeowners well for years to come. “They are young, so there was always an emphasis on investing in pieces that will last,” Amy says.

The bedrooms are each as inviting and comfortable as the living space. Bold patterns and individual color palettes in each room lend a transformative feel, encouraging guests to relax and make themselves at home. Each space, though distinct, is classic at its core, linking the rooms through a common thread of traditional style.
One of Amy’s absolute favorite components of the project actually waited for her outside the main house. An unfinished pool house with awkward sloped ceilings was the perfect challenge for Amy to tackle. They transformed the space with mint bamboo trellis wallpaper, gorgeous glass-front cabinetry and comfortable seating for guests both at the bar and tucked along the far wall. The ceilings were painted a bright white, and above the bar a custom valance Amy designed and had made in Dallas was mounted. Whether you’re grabbing a drink before heading to the pool or curling up inside with a book, this pool house is a dream — we can see why it’s Amy’s favorite part of the property.

Amy credits much of the end result of this gorgeous home to the trust and confidence the homeowner had in her as a designer. “She loved color and pattern, so it was a really great opportunity to take some risks there,” Amy says. “She completely trusted us from the beginning, which I think resulted in something we are all really proud of. When you have a job and a client you really love, you push yourself that much harder to make it the very best you can.”
